If you have ants inside your home, they appeared from somewhere. The best way to kill them is to figure out where they came from and to find their nest to kill the queen. Once you kill the queen, it's easier to kill the colony. You cannot simply kill the ants you see and figure you've killed them all. They will keep coming back, and you'll find them in other areas of your home. The best thing to do is to hire a pest control company to figure out where the nest is, but you may be able to do this on your own. Read on for helpful tips.

Watch Their Movement

If you are finding them in a bathroom of your home, they are most likely looking for a water source. Watch to see where they go and where you first began to see them. This can better help you to see where they are coming in from and what they are looking for. Then kill the ants you see, repair any leaks if they are finding water in your bathroom (such as under a sink or from a leaky faucet), then make repairs to your home where they may have been coming inside. Check around pipes or vent openings and silicone or caulk around these areas to ensure they are sealed.

Check The Perimeter Of Your Home

Look around the perimeter of your home to see if you see ants crawling around your foundation. If you have mulch, you most likely will see a lot of ants in the mulch. The like the moist area, as it's good for their nests. These ants are most likely coming in through your foundation somehow. First and foremost, get rid of the mulch so that you stop attracting the ants to your home and close to your foundation. Then check the foundation for cracks and seal them with concrete caulk or silicone.

Look For Dead Ants

If you spot dead ants, it could be close to where they are nesting. If you spot a lot of dead ants, look around for any area where ants could be hiding. Look for cracks and crevices such as between floorboards, or maybe they are going under your home in a crawl space. Take a flashlight and look for movement. The worker ants will be taking food back to their nests, so if you see any carrying food somewhere, or even dead ants somewhere, keep an eye out. Check in basements and crawl spaces, or other damp areas of your home. Then spray the nest when you think you have found it.

If you aren't able to figure out where the ants are coming in from, hire an ant control service company to help you get rid of your ant problem for good.
